The material Genesis left behind

Abyron Powder was born from the catastrophe at Saint Dorsey. During Genesis, the original Ax-126 sample suffered structural failure, extraordinary heat, electromagnetic discharge, pressure shock, partial vaporization and recondensation. What remained was a new particulate derivative, not an intact replacement for the Abyron that Hampton Dynamics had only just begun to understand.

Part of the material shattered into microscopic crystals; part fused with destroyed electronics, vaporized metals, carbon-composite structures and debris from the facility. Those fragments retained enough of the element’s abnormal energetic history to become something far more reactive than ordinary ceramic. Grinding an intact Ax-126 plate is not enough to make genuine Abyron Powder. The extraordinary circumstances of Genesis are part of its origin.

Bright orange, broken and unstable

The material is extremely fine and predominantly bright orange, with darker blood-orange flecks and a subtle ceramic or metallic glint under direct illumination. Compressed particles may appear faintly glossy. Powder does not constantly glow; its appearance is closer to finely fractured orange ceramic and glass mingled with microscopic metal.

Some darker flecks come from the same secondary crystalline arrangement already present in intact Ax-126. Others reflect damage and contamination from Genesis. The result remains related to Abyron, but its structures are fractured and its behavior no longer matches the original element.

A structure that cannot bloom

Intact Abyron is capable of volumetric bloom under tightly controlled conditions. Genuine Powder is not. The catastrophe destroyed the coherent lattice required for that process. Changes in pressure, cooling or confinement cannot simply restore the broken particles to high-grade ceramic Ax-126 or pristine liquid Abyron.

Its Unstable Maximum Weight Response also becomes fragmented. Instead of one clean batch-wide ceiling, different particles produce noisy and inconsistent anomalous readings. Nobody has discovered a process that can reverse this damage and return Powder to virgin Abyron.

It forces more out of what is already there

The defining biological effect of Abyron Powder is amplification. When the tiny damaged particles enter living tissue, their surface area, fractured edges and residual energetic properties produce an extreme reaction. Stable ceramic Abyron is comparatively safe; Powder is not.

It does not normally create new powers, grant an unrelated ability or produce true Ascendants. Instead it overdrives whichever biological or anomalous systems the person already possesses. The response is uneven, and tends to follow the systems being placed under the greatest strain at the time.

Ordinary humans, extraordinary strain

An unpowered human can become temporarily stronger, quicker to react, more enduring and more alert. Their cardiovascular output, sensory processing, pain tolerance, clotting and healing responses may intensify. Someone running for survival may experience a disproportionate surge in movement and oxygen processing; someone gravely injured may see the body’s repair and survival systems pushed hardest.

None of this makes the person a Genesis Ascendant. A human does not spontaneously gain plasma manipulation, telepathy or a new domain. They are still human, with human tissue being driven beyond its ordinary limits. What appears like a superhuman miracle can become an extreme medical emergency once that borrowed performance comes due.

Existing abilities pushed past control

A person who already has extraordinary capabilities may find those same capabilities temporarily intensified: greater strength, faster regeneration, more energetic projection, heightened senses or increased durability. Powder does not tack an unrelated power onto the user. It drives their established system harder.

Output and control are not the same thing. The greater the surge, the more easily precision and regulation can deteriorate. After heavy use, powered individuals may suffer suppression, instability or temporary loss of control, at times falling below their normal baseline for hours or days.

Ascendants may feel it most

True Ascendants show an unusually strong affinity for genuine Powder because both their transformation and the material came from the unique Genesis event. Relatively small exposures can trigger enormous temporary output spikes, accidental expansion of existing domains and loss of fine control.

Some may express a previously unknown aspect of their underlying domain while overloaded. That ability was already latent within the Ascendant: the Powder merely forced access. It does not teach mastery or make the breakthrough permanent. The Ascendant still has to learn the technique through understanding and training, without relying on Dust.

Minutes of advantage, hours of consequences

Exposure may occur through breathing contaminated air, open tissue, ingestion or direct contact with compromised tissue. Direct tissue exposure is especially hazardous. Contact with intact skin is less dangerous than internal exposure, although contamination still requires care. Substantial effects can begin within seconds to a few minutes, depending on the individual and the material.

The major enhancement commonly lasts approximately 10–30 minutes, not a universal fixed countdown. Purity, physiology, the route of exposure and whether the person is powered all matter. Greater exposure cannot be counted on to produce a clean extended benefit; it sharply escalates the risk of collapse.

The crash

When the enhancement fades, users may suffer shaking, vomiting, dehydration, extreme fatigue, muscle tearing, migraines, nosebleeds, irregular heartbeat, numbness, memory gaps and neurological instability. Their systems have been forced to operate beyond safe regulation, and recovery is rarely simple.

For powered people, the crash can be even more punishing: weakened output, disrupted ability control or temporary suppression may follow their strongest performance. The Powder’s immediate advantage is temporary. The damage can persist long after the effect has disappeared.

Tolerance, dependence and deterioration

Repeated use can lead to tolerance. More exposure may seem necessary to achieve the same perceived benefit, but damaging effects do not become harmless. Chronic use can injure the cardiovascular system, nerves, lungs and organs, disturb hormonal function and cause lasting pain, fatigue or neurological problems.

Dependency is both physical and psychological. Someone who has known extraordinary temporary performance may struggle to accept normal limits again. Powered users can become especially fixated on the heights they briefly reached. A few lasting bodily changes may occur, but the typical permanent legacy is injury—not a reliable upgrade.

When amplification becomes a catastrophe

Severe overload can cause overheating, seizures, internal bleeding, uncontrolled muscular contractions, organ failure, neurological collapse and death. In powered people, the power itself can enter a runaway state after deliberate control has been lost.

An Ascendant overdose is a particularly serious containment threat. Unconsciousness or neurological failure does not necessarily silence their existing domain. Unregulated energy release, force, regeneration or other domain-specific expressions may threaten everyone nearby. These are uncontrolled forms of what the person already possesses, not newly granted powers.

Orange crystals beneath the skin

Repeated contamination can leave microscopic Ax-derived crystalline inclusions in lungs, blood vessels, scar tissue, organs and damaged muscle. These bright-orange deposits are not full armor plates growing inside people. They are small fragments trapped in human tissue, sometimes visible during imaging, surgery or examination.

Deposits can cause inflammation, vascular irritation, nerve interference, chronic pain and continued low-grade Abyronic activity. They may also make later Powder exposure more dangerous. Some fragments are too fine, widespread or deeply embedded to remove without harming the patient.

The Abyron Exposure Protocol

Hampton Dynamics develops a formal Abyron Exposure Protocol to address contamination and overuse. Its central task is to reduce ongoing exposure, decontaminate the patient, stabilize cardiac and respiratory function, monitor neurological symptoms and provide organ support. Accessible deposits may sometimes be removed.

It is not an antidote. No universal injection simply cancels the Powder or restores a person to their former condition. Long-term monitoring may be necessary, and some neurological damage, tissue injury and internal deposits can become permanent.

Four very different forms of Dust

The name Powder covers a market in which origin and quality have profound consequences. Scientists and buyers broadly distinguish four material classes rather than one universally consistent substance.

No universal safe quantity can be assumed. Even materials from the same class can produce very different effects between people.

Saint Dorsey cannot be manufactured twice

Authentic Genesis-origin Powder is finite. Hampton and U.S. government, military and research authorities hold the largest known legitimate stockpiles recovered during cleanup and investigation. Genuine material has not vanished, but completely raw Saint Dorsey Powder grows increasingly scarce and valuable.

Smaller quantities reach foreign research programs, contractors, private laboratories and criminal networks through diversion, theft, unlawful transfers or mishandled recovery. Later buyers are more likely to encounter refined, synthetic or cut material than untouched original Dust. This scarcity matters as much politically as it does scientifically.

The price of borrowing power

On the street, Powder becomes Dust. Dealers claim to carry “real Saint Dorsey Dust,” counterfeit material circulates and users rarely know the exact nature of what they have received. Raw Powder, prepared mixtures and other illicit forms create a dangerous black-market economy built on temporary enhancement and the consequences that follow.

Los Moralistas eventually participate in the criminal Abyron and Powder ecosystem, but they are only one part of a wider international market. The trade fuels smuggling, exploitation and dependency without granting any group an unlimited supply of genuine Genesis material.

A weapon with severe limitations

State authorities and militaries investigate Powder for its temporary enhancement potential. The risks are just as important: permanent damage, unpredictable performance, dependency, contamination and powered runaway events. Different governments may make very different ethical decisions when experimenting with it.

Open-air dispersal is unreliable, and Powder is not a convenient way to transform an entire city. Enclosed contamination can be far more dangerous. Specialized equipment can identify Ax-derived particles or their unusual signatures, but ordinary screening devices do not automatically recognize Dust. Ceramic Abyron shielding reduces radiation risk, not the danger of inhaled or otherwise introduced particles; proper protection also depends on containment, sealed equipment and filtration.

Powder, Dust and Genesis Dust

The formal scientific name is Abyron Powder. Dust is common street shorthand. Public reporting may also call the substance Genesis Dust because of where it came from. Different people use different names, but these terms can refer to the same underlying post-Genesis material rather than two unrelated substances.

Powder is not Genesis in portable form. The unique convergence of energized Abyron, physical forces, contamination and biological conditions that produced true Ascendants is not recreated just by exposing a new person to Dust.

Humanity consumes the aftermath

Abyron gave humanity a technological miracle. Genesis became a catastrophe and transformation. Powder is something different: the drive to extract power from the catastrophe’s remains. Researchers study it, governments restrict it, criminals trade it, and powered individuals may chase the frightening glimpse of their possible maximum.

Its legacy stretches across medicine, warfare, organized crime and the lives of those who survive exposure. The central exchange never changes: the stronger the temporary amplification, the higher the potential biological cost.
