A transnational fictional cartel tied directly to Gila Monster’s origin and the Adaptive Somatic Catalyst.
Organization Overview
Los Moralistas is a fictional criminal cartel whose core power base is in Mexico. Its U.S. presence is meaningful but deliberately sparse: border-region operations and scattered interior logistics rather than total territorial control.
The organization is part of Gila Monster’s history. While investigating Los Moralistas, Tucson detective Adrián Zúñiga was captured and subjected to a bioengineering procedure involving the Adaptive Somatic Catalyst (ASC). He survived the procedure and later became Gila Monster.
Adaptive Somatic Catalyst
The Adaptive Somatic Catalyst is the experimental biotechnology used to bioengineer Adrián. Los Moralistas acted as the experiment’s customer, funder, and operator.
Ax-126 Access
Abyron eventually reaches Los Moralistas through the increasingly complicated international Ax-126 supply chain. Their access does not require a direct robbery of Hampton’s original discovery site: material can be stolen, diverted, illegally sold, stripped from equipment, mislabeled, smuggled, or acquired through corrupt officials and foreign stock.
The quality of criminally acquired Ax-126 can vary dramatically because repeated volumetric bloom permanently lowers UMWR. Genuine Abyron on the black market is not automatically premium-grade material.
Public Record
Current records establish the cartel’s Mexican core, limited U.S. border and logistics presence, and direct connection to Adrián’s bioengineering. The cartel operates through an opaque command hierarchy and supply network that complicates investigations into its leadership and sources.
