OLDROOT
ABOUT OLDROOT STUDIOS

BUILD THE ROOTS.
LET THE WORLD GROW.

OldRoot Studios is being built around long-form original worlds: characters with identities worth remembering, rules that support spectacle, and enough open space for the work to keep surprising us years later.

THE STUDIO

Not a content factory.

OldRoot exists to build worlds with enough structure to matter and enough freedom to keep growing.

The aim is not a pile of interchangeable superheroes. Characters, places, organizations, visual identities, technologies, histories, and future mythologies should feel like parts of a world rather than inventory.

OldRoot’s current superhero universe is the studio’s first long-form setting, built for readers to explore through stories, characters, locations, events, and public reference material.

CREATIVE DIRECTION

Familiar powers can still produce unfamiliar heroes.

Originality comes from mythology, character, rules, aesthetics, cultures, consequences, and execution—not from banning recognizable superpowers.

Strong silhouettes

Characters should be readable before a paragraph of explanation is required.

Clear mechanics

Rules give powers scene language and make spectacle more memorable rather than less imaginative.

Room to expand

Origins, cosmology, technology, magic, genetics, aliens, artifacts, martial arts, experiments, and future branches can coexist without one explanation swallowing the universe.

THE PUBLIC SITE

A front door, not the writer’s room.

GROW WITH THE STUDIO

Help build what's next.

We're interested in meeting co-writers and illustrators for voluntary, currently unpaid creative collaborations. Share your interest, see what we're making, and understand how contributions are discussed before any work begins.
