REMEDIE
Mandy Ledger · Wearable Exo-Frame Operator
She built Remedie because she refused to be too late twice.
Overview
Remedie is the identity of Mandy Ledger, a 28-year-old Boston woman whose technological combat system grew out of her family's exoskeleton business and a desperate search for her missing brother. The power in her equipment is engineered, not biological. Mandy herself remains entirely human.
Her early campaign against criminal networks is driven by obsession and anger, yet she repeatedly puts endangered strangers ahead of personal vengeance. Through those choices, the armor she built to hunt someone becomes a way of protecting people who have nobody else to stand between them and danger.
She built Remedie because she refused to be too late twice.
Before the Money
The Ledger family began with limited financial means. Mandy remembers the years when money was scarce, when her father, George Ledger, worked as an engineer and small-business owner, and when the family's future depended on his ability to turn practical invention into steady work.
A major technology contract changed their lives. George's company expanded from powered-assistance and exoskeleton work into a wealthy defense and technology enterprise. The Ledgers entered new-money circles without erasing Mandy's memory of the struggling household that came before.
For Mandy, the distinction matters. George once genuinely loved his family. The father she remembers and the man he becomes are both real.
The Ledger Enterprise
George Ledger built his business on powered-assistance technology. As the company grew, more employees, contracts, investors, and sensitive relationships depended on him. His rationalizations changed with the stakes: first the family's welfare, then the company's survival, then the belief that anything preserving the enterprise was justified.
At home he could look exhausted and weighed down. At work he appeared decisive and in control. Mandy clung to the idea that somebody else must be forcing him into increasingly corrupt arrangements.
Gary Sodd and the Underworld
Gary Sodd, George's business partner, introduced criminal intermediaries, black-market opportunities, intimidation, and compromised contracts into the company's world. Mandy's mother distrusted Gary long before Mandy understood why.
Gary helped open the door to the underworld, but he did not control everything that followed. The decisions that finally ruined the Ledger family came from inside it.
Her Mother's Death
Mandy's mother grew suspicious of George's changing business, Gary's influence, and the company employees and associates surrounding them. She pursued answers until she drew too close to the company's darkest dealings.
She died under circumstances that did not immediately expose the truth. The loss left Mandy with grief, suspicion, and questions that the family could not put to rest.
Her Brother Disappears
Mandy's brother refused to accept the explanation surrounding their mother's death. He began investigating the Ledger company, then vanished.
Mandy believed he was alive somewhere beyond her reach. She saw the disappearance as a second chance to act before it was too late—an opportunity to refuse the powerlessness she had felt when their mother died.
The tragedy was already underway: her brother had been killed before Mandy began the search. She would spend months hunting answers that could not bring him back.
Building Remedie
Mandy did not create her father's exoskeleton industry from nothing, and she is not an engineering prodigy. She knew the technology, the available resources, and what she needed it to accomplish.
She quietly commissioned a male engineer employed at the Ledger company to help adapt its wearable frame technology. Mandy set requirements and performance goals, especially for a matched pair of compact arm assemblies that could intercept incoming attacks and redirect force.
The frame supports Mandy. The paired arms define Remedie. Her resulting suit is not a replacement body or a robotic shell. It remains a lightweight external system worn over real clothing and her real limbs.
The Engineer Beside Her — Max Corbett
At first, Max Corbett knew Mandy as George Ledger's daughter: a well-funded client with precise goals and limited explanations. He accepted the work for its technical challenge, legitimate payment, and access to the technology involved.
As Mandy's purpose became clearer, his own experience with questionable company projects helped him understand the danger. He became a collaborator and confidant rather than a detached remote operator. Their trust grew into a romantic relationship founded on what they had built and survived together.
A Violent Search
Mandy entered the underworld looking for her brother. In the early Remedie period, her interventions were harsh, obsessive, and sometimes brutally violent. She dismantled criminal operations and pursued leads through people who knew the Ledger company's secrets.
Her target was Gary Sodd. Mandy believed he was the controlling figure behind the corruption, and that extracting the truth from him would lead her to her brother.
The Gary Revelation
Mandy eventually captured Gary and interrogated him. Gary realized she still did not know the worst part: her brother was already dead.
Her brother had uncovered too much. George was told action was necessary and chose the company over his own son. Gary admitted his role in corrupting the business, but the responsibility for the deaths of Mandy's mother and brother led back to George himself.
The revelation transformed Mandy's mission. The man she had tried to rescue from his business had knowingly sacrificed his family to it.
From Revenge to Rescue
Remedie's earliest missions took her into dangerous places where criminal operations hid hostages, trafficked people, kidnapped civilians, and vulnerable witnesses. She sometimes had a lead nearly within reach when someone else's life suddenly demanded a choice.
Even when abandoning a target infuriated her, Mandy kept choosing to save the person in front of her. The repeated choice changed the meaning of the suit. Protecting others gradually became more important than punishing her father.
Her first identity was an anti-hero's weapon of revenge. Her later identity is a hero's shield. The transition is earned through actions, not a ceremonial change of costume.
Visual Identity
Mandy's signature field appearance starts with a mustard-colored, real wool turtleneck, gray tactical pants, and heavy black boots. Her dark hair is pulled into a messy bun with loose strands.
Skeletal black-and-gunmetal support hardware runs over her sweater and around her shoulders, arms, torso, hips, legs, and boots. The gauntlets are relatively compact. Exposed hands and human arm proportions remain clearly visible; Mandy should read immediately as a person wearing machinery, never a cyborg.
Paired Arms and Responsive Palms
Each arm has an external shoulder anchor, slim bracing, elbow support, forearm housing, and compact gauntlet. The hand assembly combines reinforced knuckles and partial finger armor with a clearly visible mechanism in the palm.
The palms are engineered to catch, intercept, and redirect physical force. They do not fire energy beams. Powerful blows can still exceed Mandy's footing or structural tolerances; the frame's assistance never makes her invulnerable.
Magnetic Polarity Control
The two arm systems can shift independently between positive, negative, and neutral polarity. Remedie can attract or repel metal, wrest weapons from opponents, interfere with armored equipment, shift metal structures, and anchor herself against suitable surfaces.
Fine handling becomes difficult around loads above approximately 400 pounds, although short and violent repulsion can move objects much heavier than she could hold or carry. Her magnetic control is precise enough for tactical improvisation, not unlimited metal manipulation.
Reflex and Threat Detection
A signature threat-detection system evaluates approaching trajectories, predicts where force is likely to land, and moves Mandy's supported arms into better defensive alignment. It improves timing, balance, interception, and bracing.
The system is not combat autopilot. Mandy still makes the important decisions and still must recognize how to exploit the moment her equipment creates.
The frame creates the opening. Mandy learns what to do with it.
Assisted Strength and Kinetic Bracing
At her Prime capability, Remedie's exo-frame lets her overpower unenhanced opponents, break ordinary barriers, lift motorcycles, and manipulate heavy machinery components. Under favorable conditions and with appropriate leverage, she can briefly handle loads in the lower thousands of pounds and lift or flip part of a small car.
She cannot casually raise whole cars overhead, lift buses, or contend in raw strength with OldRoot's true heavy hitters.
Impact bracing spreads force through shoulders, spine, hips, legs, and boots instead of placing the entire load on one hand or joint. The protection is substantial, but Mandy remains biologically human.
Anchoring and Vertical Movement
On suitable metal surfaces, the frame can establish magnetic grip to resist knockback, cling to structures, or reposition along walls and moving vehicles. The support remains dependent on the material and geometry available.
Powered movement extends her jumping ability to approximately 15–20 feet vertically and 35–50 feet horizontally under favorable conditions.
Propulsion and Overdrive
Short propulsion bursts assist sudden dashes, jump boosts, aerial corrections, fall arrest, and brief hovering or repositioning. A full operating cycle supplies approximately 20 cumulative seconds of active thrust, normally used in one-to-three-second bursts. The system is not sustained flight and needs time to recover after its propulsion resource is spent.
Overdrive briefly raises actuator strength, magnetic output, frame responsiveness, and mobility at the cost of rapid energy draw and mechanical strain. It does not transform Remedie into a city-level powerhouse.
EMP Hardening
Early versions of the Remedie system were seriously vulnerable to electromagnetic pulses, which could interfere with the arms, magnets, reflex support, and movement systems.
After years of experience, Prime Remedie adds shielding, hardening, and redundancy that substantially reduce this weakness. The mature frame is strongly EMP-resistant, though not necessarily completely immune to every attack.
Counter-Punch to Counter-Combo
Early Remedie relies on a defensive rhythm: absorb or redirect an enemy's attack, then respond with one decisive counterpunch. Her technology closes gaps that her training cannot yet cover.
Prime Remedie becomes a genuinely capable, experienced combatant who chains defensive openings into strikes, knees, throws, magnetic pulls, repulsive force, powered hits, and assisted repositioning.
She remains below specialist operators such as Latch Boswell in pure trained fighting technique. Her strength is learning to use the frame as an extension of increasingly practiced judgment.
Why She Becomes a Hero
Mandy did not originally build her frame for strangers. Yet the sight of somebody else trapped in a place that should have been safe became increasingly impossible for her to ignore.
The same hands designed to strike back at the people who destroyed her family become the hands that catch falling debris, turn aside gunfire, and keep other families together.
The weapon she built for revenge becomes a shield for everybody else.
OldRoot Power Index
Prime Remedie's eleven recorded categories describe Mandy operating the mature dual-arm exo-frame. The values belong to the wearable combat system combined with her learned ability to use it, not to an inherently superhuman body.
Her 19.4 Senses reflects machine-aided threat detection and assisted defensive timing. Mandy does not have supernatural awareness, enhanced biological sight, smell, or hearing. The mathematical baseline mean is an analytics display, not an approved canonical overall OPI.
Averages and comparisons are tools for exploring individual measurements, not automatic predictions of victories or official overall scores.
