HILO / HAWAIʻI ISLAND
The established home base and primary operating region of Kokio.
Location Overview
Hilo is Kalani Kane’s established home base. As Kokio, her stories naturally extend through eastern Hawaiʻi Island into rainforest, volcanic terrain, coastline, and remote wilderness.
Kalani, her older sister Kimi Kane, and her lifelong best friend Duke Decker share an affordable three-bedroom condo in Hilo.
The Hidden Forest
Kalani and Duke’s shared origin takes place in an exceptionally dense section of Hawaiian forest where they encounter a hidden, uncontacted community and the ancient ritual that connects them to different supernatural entities.
The exact forest is intentionally fictionalized. It is not assigned to a specific real-world Native Hawaiian community, and the hidden community’s exact location and history remain open.
