Overview

Ja’Kori Benson, known as Commotion, is a fully human Chicago vigilante whose greatest advantage appears when a fight becomes crowded, improvised, and chaotic. He has no extraordinary powers. His effectiveness comes from exceptional human agility, boxing experience, underground fighting, situational awareness, dirty fighting, and a talent for making the environment part of his combat vocabulary.

Ja’Kori doesn't care whether a move has a name. He cares whether it worked.

Biography

Ja’Kori belongs to the extended Walker family and was raised from toddlerhood by the Walker uncle who became his parental figure. That family environment shaped both his loyalty and the conflict that eventually pushed him toward masked activity.

Boxing

As a young adult, Ja’Kori became a professional boxer. He had genuine talent, but the sport's rules increasingly felt too narrow for the way he naturally fought. His instincts pulled toward broader movement, grappling, kicking, tackling, momentum, and rapid repositioning.

“I'm not failing at fighting. I'm failing at boxing.”

Underground fighting

After leaving professional boxing, Ja’Kori entered an illegal underground fighting circuit. The less controlled environment allowed his broader instincts to develop: dirty fighting, improvisation, close-range adaptation, and comfort inside chaotic exchanges.

Becoming Commotion

His masked activity begins through family trouble rather than a generic decision to fight crime. When older Walker relatives try to keep him out of dangerous family affairs to protect him, Ja’Kori experiences that exclusion as a denial of his right to stand beside the people who raised him. He begins intervening secretly behind a mask.

Personality

Ja’Kori is cocky, young, reckless, stubborn, street-smart, and intensely family-loyal. Fighting is one of the environments in which his instincts make the most sense, and that confidence can tempt him to trust himself too much when a situation becomes chaotic.

He respects the rules of an agreed competition. Real violence is different. In a dangerous confrontation, he is willing to fight dirty and use whatever the environment gives him. He has no ideological refusal to use firearms, and he makes those judgments based on the danger in front of him.

Human Capabilities & Skills

Exceptional agility

Commotion's defining physical trait is elite human agility and body control: rapid changes of direction, vaulting, rolling, sliding, wall-assisted movement, dynamic landings, and transitions that keep one exchange flowing into the next. The ability remains human; it does not permit flight, impossible midair steering, super-speed, or reactionary bullet-dodging.

Combat awareness

Ja’Kori is unusually good at reading violent environments through experience. He notices body language, peripheral movement, exits, reflections, crowd behavior, hazards, and potential improvised tools. This is not precognition or a supernatural danger sense, and he can still be surprised.

Street intelligence

His intellect is practical rather than academic or universal. He reads people, recognizes when situations are deteriorating, spots exits and leverage, and makes fast decisions under pressure. He is not a scientist, engineering prodigy, detective savant, or master planner.

Combat Style

Commotion is a dirty, momentum-based, improvisational close-quarters fighter with a professional boxing foundation. He does not want to stand still and trade raw power with bigger opponents. He moves between angles, bodies, walls, stairs, furniture, vehicles, railings, and dropped objects, treating position itself as a weapon.

Hallways, apartments, clubs, warehouses, alleys, stairwells, and crowded rooms favor him. Open space does not. A clean firing lane is a serious problem, and he should use cover, retreat, or a different plan rather than treating agility as invulnerability.

Equipment

Ballistic mask

Commotion's deep-purple full-face mask is lightweight protective equipment built for concealment, mobility, and ballistic resistance. His golden-brown dreadlocks remain exposed as part of the silhouette. The mask does not make him invulnerable; impacts can still injure or incapacitate him.

Gun-jammer devices

His signature equipment includes small, crude homemade firearm-disruption devices with a fifteen-foot effect radius. Their effect is intentionally non-selective, including Ja’Kori's own firearm if it is inside the affected area.

The devices are meant to change the conditions of an armed encounter rather than make Commotion bulletproof or solve every dangerous situation.

Affiliations & Family

The Walker extended family is Ja’Kori's strongest established affiliation. His loyalty to the family is one of the central engines of his masked identity. He is also connected to an unnamed legitimate Chicago armed-security organization through the family and participates in an unnamed illegal underground fighting circuit.
